Esther Hamill and Chris Smart both completed weekend doubles with victory at the Emergency Services 25-Mile Championship on Sunday, to add to their wins in the 10-mile title race the day before.
Smart retained his title from last year – as he had done in the previous day’s 10-mile championship event – with a time of 51-25 which was good enough for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service rider to win by 1-05 from Terry Wilkinson (Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service) with Anthony Snow (Humberside Fire Service) third, another five seconds off the pace.
Hamill was again the only female competing this year, she completed the course in a time of 1-12-39.
Like Saturday’s shorter 10-mile title race this was held on a rolling course in good conditions. Riders start near Leeming Bar and proceed southwards on the A6055, tracking the A1down to the junction with Lime Lane where they head back up.
Smart is next due to be in action at next Sunday’s National 100-Mile Championship, while Hamill hasn’t entered any more open time trials until next month’s Border City Wheelers 10 and 25 in Cumbria.
