Marcel Schubert and Caroline Ratcliff claimed victory as fastest male and fastest female respectively at the Hartlepool CC 10-mile time trial.

Riding for Darlington CC, Schubert’s time of 19-41 saw him finish comfortably ahead of Dolan Ellesse rider Joe Wilson, who managed 20-06, with Keith Murray of Vector Racing taking third place in 20-58.

In the women’s event Ferryhill Wheelers’ Caroline Ratcliff dominated the event in 25-46 with Sarah Foulds (Velo Culture) clocking 26-13 ahead of Valley Striders CC rider Liz Ball.

Schubert’s efforts helped Darlington CC win the fastest team on standard prize alongside Steve Fullerton and Malcolm Steer.

At +6-25, Schubert was also fastest on standard, with Russ Richardson from Teasdale CRC second on +6-22 while Vector Racing’s Keith Murray was slightly further back on +5-38.

His son Ellis Murray, also of Vector Racing, was named fastest junior in 23-12, Richmond CC’s Paul Newman was fastest on handicap in 19-33, while in the road bike event Mick Chapple (North Tyneside CC) was fastest in 26-28.

Riders faced overcast conditions while the 12mph winds made it challenging for the field to the turn.

The route, on course T102, starts on the east side of the old A19, just north of Postat Gateway before proceeding south towards Crathorne Village then joining the A19 southbound and continuing to Cleveland Tontine hotel then taking two consecutive lefts onto A172 and over the bridge to join the A19 northbound and then heading north on A19 to finish just south of Crathorne.
