Marcel Schubert

Marcel Schubert (Darlington Cycling Club) took victory by over a minute in the Darlington CC 25, while under-16 rider Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Wheelers) won the women’s event.

Veteran rider Schubert took his second win in as many weeks clocking a time of 50 minutes and 52 seconds over the undulating course.

The T254/1R saw riders complete two laps of an out and back course along the A6055 which runs alongside the A1 in Yorkshire between Leeming Bar and Kirkington.

The conditions were dry, sunny but very cold for the 9.01am start, with a minimal southerly breeze on the undulating course.

Schubert finished third on the same course last month clocking 51-59 but showed his early season improvement going over a minute quicker on this occasion to take victory.

Ben Pease (Moonglu CC) also put in a strong performance to finish just over a minute adrift of Schubert taking second in 52-01.

Road bike winner and second veteran on scratch Rob Carter (Cleveland Wheelers CC) was also third overall clocking 54-49.

Sophie Heighton

Spindata had predicted a win for Schubert in 51-20 but in reality the veteran beat that mark by 28 seconds with Pease coming home as predicted in second.

In the women’s event 15-year-old Heighton was on top form once again clinching victory in a time of one hour, nine minutes and 28 seconds.

Heighton already has a national title to her name this season in the National Road Bike Championships for juniors and added a senior win to her collection.

Spindata had predicted that Heighton would finish in 1-11-43 but the improving juvenile knocked over two minutes off that time.

Quickest veteran woman and in second place overall was Caroline Heighton (Ferryhill Whs) completing the course in 1-25-41.
