Nick Munro claimed the prize for the fastest male while Sarah Wilkinson was fastest female on the one-mile course in Lanchester, County Durham, on Saturday morning.
Royal Air Force Cycling Association rider Munro clocked 4-4.9 to beat second-placed Alexander Storey by 2.1 seconds with the GS Metro member finishing in 4-11.1, while Colin Atkinson, of Muckle Cycle Club, finished in 4-22.7 to take the final podium spot.
In the women’s event, Blaydon CC rider Wilkinson took a narrow victory in 5-37.0, with 5-38.1 not enough for Madeleine Bell who had to settle for second place ahead of Durham City Velo’s Ellen Powell in 5-47.6.
Munro has enjoyed a fine hill-climbing season, with victories at the Zurbaran Racing event on August 21, runners-up finishes at the Team Bikestop Tyrekey event on September 4, North Tyneside Riders race on September 11 and further triumphs at the Cleveland Wheelers CC and Sheffrec CC climbs.
This event, run on the MH2 course, is a one-mile (Hill Climb) that starts approximately 200 yards from Lanchester All Saints Church corner and proceeds uphill to finish approximately 150 yards before the junction with Maiden Law and Burnhope Road.
