Muckle Cycle Club completed a podium clean sweep as Matty Smith led a one-two-three for his team at the Blaydon CC 23, while Louise Burnie (Blaydon CC) was the only woman competitor.

Smith, aged 30, recorded a winning time of 53 minutes and 35 seconds to finish over two minutes clear of his nearest challenger on the Northumberland course.

The M23-1 saw competitors head out and back along the B6343 west of Morpeth heading out to Scots Gap before completing a seven-mile loop and then the return journey back to the start/finish.

Early morning mist made way for a beautiful morning in the Northeast on Sunday morning.

Smith, who won the Team Kirkly Cycles hill climb last season, showed his form ahead of the hill climb season taking his first win of the campaign.

Muckle Cycle Club team-mate Lee Cuthbertson was the fastest road bike on the day and finished second overall in 55-53.

A further 15 seconds behind was another Muckle Cycle Club rider in the form of Daniel Kane who completed a podium clean sweep for his team.

Second in the road bike category was Lee Ridden (Reifen Racing) who finished in 59-57 while Ian Gallon (North Tyneside Riders CC) finished third (1-03-53).

Louise Burnie from the host club Blaydon CC was the sole female entrant and completed the course in a time of 1-06-06.
