Jen McMahon and Phil Hall were crowned fastest female and fastest male respectively at a very windy Barnesbury CC 10-mile time trial on Wednesday night.
In extremely gusty conditions, Jaden Vive Le Velo rider McMahon showed plenty of control to win the women’s race in 24-41, ahead of Claire Harlow (Team Kirkley Cycles) in 25-41. While the podium was completed by Ferryhill Wheelers’ Sophie Heighton who clocked 27-36.
In the men’s event just 10 seconds separated the top three riders in a tense finish, with Hall (Velo Culture) claiming victory in 20-36, ahead of Team Kirkley Cycles’ Adam Smith (20-44) and the 20-46 set by Harry Walker of Revolver Racing.
The 53 starters faced gusts of up to 40mph throughout the course, with 51 finishing the open event.
The route, on course M102B, starts just north of the Bassington Roundabout on the A1068 and proceeds north to Plessey Checks Roundabout then heads onto the A192 eastbound to start the first of two circuits.
Riders then proceed past the Admiral Business Park and North Nelson Park Industrial Estate to Crowhall Lane Roundabout, continuing straight on to the Three Horseshoes Roundabout to complete the first circuit and then repeat.
At the end of the second circuit, riders finish on the A192 westbound just short of the Plessey Checks Roundabout.
