Vector Racing pair Lewis Timmins and Graham Crammond were fastest men at the Blaydon CC 19-mile two-up team time trial on Saturday morning, while host club pair Louise Burnie and Gemma Hutchins were fastest women.
Scratch pairing Timmins and Crammond set a time of 41-55 to finish ahead of Terry Wilkinson (GTR - Return To Life P/B Streamline) and John Routledge (Barnesbury CC) who managed 42-23), while third place and fastest on road bikes were Muckle CC pair Matty Smith and Shaun Wilkinson (44-21).
Of the event, Lewis said: “This course is a difficult one to ride as it has lots of technical sections with twists and turns thrown in for good measure, all whilst you are trying to ride the wheel of your partner.
“The gusty cross winds made it a bit sketchy in parts. We are both pleased to pick up the win.”
Burnie and Hutchins clocked 50-50 to take victory in the women’s event, 47 seconds ahead of Reifen Racing’s Sarah Cramoysan and Vicky Gibbs (51-37) with Becky Coleman (North Shields Polytechnic Club) and Sharron Jackson (Wearside Triathlon) third in 1-02-46.
Fastest mixed pairing was Liverpool Century pair Kate Giddings and Chris Reynolds in 48-37.
The time trial, on the M19 course, is an anti-clockwise loop in south-east Northumberland which has a lot going on. The 19-mile route start west of Stannington before heading towards Tranwell Village, then heading past Kirkley Hall and Garden then left up Berwick Hill past Horton Grange and finishing 25 metres before the Stannington Village sign.
