Anthony Jones (VMCC powered by Y Beic) secured the top spot in the Cardiff 100 miles RCC 50-mile time trial in Monmouthshire on Sunday morning, while Lindsey Lyes (The Ark Cycles) was the victor in the women’s event.
Jones claimed victory here with a final time of 1:43:29, nearly four minutes quicker than second-placed Tim Wood (Team Echelon) who came home in 1:47:18, while taking the final podium spot was Andy Davies (UF Rowe & King) who completed the course in 1:49:28.
After a second placed finish at the Shaftesbury CC 50 a couple of weeks back Jones has come back and built on that with a win. This was his second victory of the month, the first coming at the Welsh 100-Championship.
In the women’s event it was Lindsey Lyes that took the top spot comfortably, finishing over eight minutes faster than her nearest competitor. Lyes time was 2:03:07 - a time that smashed her 50-mile personal best which previously sat at 2:12:45.
The next fastest woman was Joy Payne (High Wycombe CC) who rode the course in 2:11:55, while filling the final podium spot was Nichola Rorke (Exeter Wheelers) in 2:37:03.
Last ride out for Lyes was her season debut that took place in the West Wales Cyclists’ League 100 where she was able to pick up a third place finish and set a personal best there also.
