Christopher Gibbard set a new course record in winning the Port Talbot Wheelers 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, with Jasmine Bowyer finishing as fastest woman.

Bynea Cycling Club’s Gibbard completed the course in just 18-49 to slash 20 seconds off the previous record and snatch victory from Guernsey VC’s Seb Tremlett, whose time of 19-19 secured second place ahead of Graeme Boswell (Cardiff Ajax) in third with 20-53.

Bowyer, from Cardiff Ajax, took victory in the women’s event in 23-53 with Pembrokeshire Velo rider Bethan Ouseley second in 24-20 and promoting club rider Emma Davies third in 26-29.

Gibbard, 41, was also fastest veteran on standard in +7-17, ahead of Hugh Davies, representing the promoting club, in +6-18, and fellow Port Talbot Wheeler Mike Hall who clocked +5-58.

There was more success for the host club with Rhys Lloyd winning the road bike category in 22-45, while they also claimed the fastest team of three prize in a total time of 1-05-01 thanks to Hall, Rod Hicks and Graham Rogerson.

The R10/22A course starts on the Vale of Neath Business Park before proceeding eastwards along the road to Resolven roundabout, then taking the first left along the A465 and continuing up the loop to Tonna roundabout.

From there riders take the first exit to Aberdulais interchange and rejoining A465 then heading off the first exit at Resolven roundabout and finishing by the canal car park.
