Owen Burgess

Owen Burgess (UF Rowe & King 37) took his third victory of the season winning the Cardiff 100 Miles RCC 15 by just 10 seconds, while Jody Parker (Team Zero-Allez) won the women’s event.

Burgess, who celebrated his 34th birthday earlier in the week, was the only rider to break the 30-minute barrier clocking a winning time of 29 minutes and 51 seconds over the 15-mile course.

A starting leg saw competitors begin on the B4598 heading towards Abergavenny before joining the A40 and heading out and back to Reglan before finishing shortly before the return to Abergavenny.

Competitors were greeted with pleasant and warm conditions for the event.

Burgess has already chalked up wins in the Cardiff 100 Miles RCC hosted 4-up on the same course and 10-mile event in January.

Veteran Philip Tucker (Bynea Cycling Club) pushed Burgess all the way finishing 10 seconds back in 30-01 also taking the fastest age-corrected time.

Para-cyclist Will Bjergfelt (AeroCoach) completed the overall podium positions taking third in 30-34.

Dylan Edwards (Veloflow CC) was the quickest in the road bike category with a winning time of 36-10 ahead of Marco Marletta (Cardiff Jif) in second (37-32)

In the two-up competition Team Echelon riders Simon Garrett and Simon Adcook took top honours clocking 30-01.

Meanwhile, the Sotonia CC mixed pair of Norman Harvey and Mary Corbett were on the quickest tandem in 43-06.

In the women’s category Parker took her first open victory clocking a time of 38 minutes and 56 seconds.

Taking part in her first open time trial last year Parker finished third in the Pontypool RCC 10 but went two places better on this occasion.

Veteran rider Lucia Borradaile (CC Weymouth) finished second in 39-34.
