Joss Lowden gave herself an early birthday present with success in the women’s event at the Norwich ABC 10-mile time-trial, while Will Lowden won the men’s event on Saturday afternoon.
Wattshop rider Joss, who turns 35 on Monday, set an impressive time of 21-04 to finish third overall and fastest female, while Easterley Road Club’s Julia Freeman did not finish.
In the men’s event, 19-year-old Will, also of Wattshop, won overall in 19-57 with Loose Cannon’s Conditioning rider Matt O’Brien taking second place in 20-38 and Stuart Fairweather clocking 21-11 to fill the final podium spot.
In the tandem event, victory went to VC Baracchi pair Nick Partridge and John Swanbury in 22-08.
This race marks Will’s first victory since the CC Sudbury 22-mile time trial win on March 3, having finished third at the Minehead Cycling Club hill climb on Porlock Hill on September 18 and second on Minehead Cycling Club’s Porlock Toll Road hill climb on the same day.
This event, run on the B10/43 course, starts on the A143 just south of Wortwell with riders enjoying a very flat single carriageway course on a reasonable surface that features only one roundabout.
Riders then proceed north-eastwards past Homersfield and Flixton, through Earsham before turning at Bungay roundabout and retracing the route until the finish line.
