Darran Bennett (Ely and District CC) and Emily Varley (Hitchin Nomads CC) were fastest male and female riders at a shortened Kings Lynn CC time trial staged on an 18-mile course in Norfolk.
Bennett clocked 38-53 for the distance, shortened from 25 to 18 miles because of roadworks at Wereham. That gave him the victory by 46 seconds from Dan Blackburn (Epic Orange Race Team), with Daniel Bloy (Team Velovelocity) another 30 seconds back in third.
Varley was fastest female by 5-06, winning the women’s prize from Amy Sole (Full Moo Cycling), with Sally Withey (Swift Racing) taking third, another 29 seconds back.
Ely and District CC won the team prize with Bennett leading the trio and being joined by John Manlow and Rob Goult, their combined time being 2-08-05.
Despite hot temperatures it was a windy day for riders and marshalls alike for the event, which was a BBAR and SpoCo qualifying event.
This was Bennett’s second victory of the season so far, having won his first open ride of the season at the Stowmarket and District CC 20 back in early April. But since then he has secured top ten placings in all but one of the 12 events he has ridden. Next up for him is the Finsbury Park CC 25 at Tempsford on August 6.
For Emily Varley this was her first open time trial win of the season, with her previous best of 2022 being third in the Hitchin Nomads CC 25 back in May. She is next due to be in action at the Bedfordshire Roads CC 25 next weekend.
