David Ackerley (Team JMC) was the victor in the Wolsey RC 10-mile time trial, while Becky Ridge (TPH Racing) was the fastest in the women’s event in Suffolk.
Ackerley went off as the pre-race favourite and justified the scratch-man position with a 22:45 ride that saw him finish over 15 seconds quicker than any other rider.
His nearest rival was Peter Hurry (Plomesgate CC) who rode 23:03 to claim second spot, while third was taken by Chris Parker (Ipswich BC) who clocked 23:31.
Ackerley is getting better as the season goes on, also finishing his previous open event on the podium, which was third in the Norwich ABC 10 last weekend. These are his first pair of back-to-back podium finishes of the season and he will look to carry that momentum into his next event which is set to be the …a3crg 10 next weekend.
In the women’s event it was Becky Ridge finished first, she clocked a time of 23:24. Despite being the only woman competing she proved she was a worthy winner as she finished third overall and also took almost a minute off the women’s course record whilst doing so.
Further proof of her knack for winning is the fact that she was coming off the back of back-to-back victories. Most recent of which coming at the Lee Valley CC 10 and prior to that the East District Cycling Association 10. She is awaiting confirmation of her place in the National 10-mile Championships, an event in which she will make her debut if granted a position.
There were awards for veteran categories they were awarded to (in ascending age) Rob Hobbs (Diss & Diss CC) who rode a 26:10. Chris Parker (Ipswich BC) who clocked a 23:31. Paul Moss (Stowmarket and Dist. CC) 24:48. David Sawyer (Wolsey RC) 26:36. Nicholas Webber (CC Sudbury) 24:33. Peter Tibbitts (Ford CC) 25:13. John Vidler (Plomesgate CC) 35:27.
