Norfolk wins for Matthews and Field
Harley Matthews and Jackie Field were fastest male and female riders respectively at the VC Norwich 25-mile time trial in Norfolk on Sunday morning.
Matthews, the 27-year-old from Great Yarmouth who rides for DAP Cycling Club, covered the B25/5 near Attleborough in 51-07 to take the win by 26 seconds from VC Norwich veteran Chris Holmes, while third spot went to Ely and District CC vet Simon Butteriss in 53-36.
And 57-year-old Cambridgeshire-based Jackie Field (CC Ashwell) was quickest of the female entrants with a time of exactly 59 minutes which gave her the win in that category by 2-20 from Diana Egerton-Warburton (Team Jewson-MI Racing), with the final spot on the women’s podium going to Cambridge CC’s Ann Shuttleworth in 1-03-24.
The B25/5 course is a simple out and back affair, heading down the A11 from Attleborough and turning to the north of Thetford.
This was Harley’s first open time trial of the year, but comes after he won his last two events of 2021, the Norwich ABC 25 and the Godric CC 25 in September and October.
He stays on local roads next weekend when he competes in the Great Yarmouth CC 25 which uses the B25/54 from Stalham down the A149 to Caister on Sea and back.
