Nic Fennell earned a dominant victory in the men’s event, while Debbie Percival finished as fastest woman at the Kent CA 25-mile time trial in Kent on Sunday morning.
A time of 50.27 helped Thanet Road Club rider Fennell to a comfortable win, more than five minutes faster than John Cockrill (SFA Racing Team) who took second place in 55-40, with Dean Chiddention just 15 seconds back in 55-45 to complete the podium.
In the women’s event Percival (Kent Velo Boys/Girls) finished in 1-08-26 to take first prize, while Stonham Barns Park rider Abbey Thompson was fastest junior in 1-11-40.
The event, on course Q25/10, starts southwest of St. Nicholas at Wade and heads along the A28 before joining Thanet Way westbound and continuing to Broomfield interchange turning left and following Thanet Way eastbound then left into Potten Street Road and after Wantsum Way joins Thanet Way westbound.
Riders then proceed as per the first circuit before finishing on Thanet Way just short of St Nicholas at Wade roundabout.
The field of 25 entrants was reduced to 18 starters with several missing due to Covid, but those that competed enjoyed warm and still conditions throughout the 25-mile course.
Fennel has enjoyed a fine season so far, with seven consecutive wins from 11 events so far, beginning with his success at Medway Velo Club’s 25-mile time trial on May 22 and including triumphs at CC Bexley, home club Thanet RC and Kent CA.
