Ben Millar (Primera-Teamjobs) went fastest in the FTP Racing hill climb, while Celia Brown (Beacon Roads) was the winner in the women’s event on Clarken Coombe near Bristol.
Following poor weather the previous day it turned out dry and sunny for this event, evidently so as Millar took nine seconds off his own previous course record. 4:56.07 was the winning time and new record.
In second place was national 100-mile champion Jake Sargent of the promoting club, he clocked a time of 5:07.01 and in third was Archie Cross (Bristol RC) with a final time of 5:08.07.
Heading into the National Championships Millar continues his good start to the season, having now won three of the four open events he has participated in. Up next is the Bristol South CC climb on Sunday which will be his final event before the National Championships next weekend where he will be looking to improve on his 26th position finish last year.
First woman was Celia Brown, she finished in 6:14.01, eight seconds off the course record.
She was closely followed by Maddie Heywood of the promoting club, as she clocked a final time of 6:20.40 seconds further off the pace was Josie Harcourt (Avid Sport) she completed the course in 7:01.09 to finish off the podium.
After an active time trialling season Brown has now won two of the three hill climbs she has ridden.
In other categories the winner of the junior event was Finlay Mowat of Avid Sport, he finished in 5:38.
