Madeleine Heywood set a new women’s course record while David Fellows was fastest male at the Wotton hill climb promoted by Sodbury Cycle Sport on Saturday morning.
FTP Race Team’s Heywood was a convincing winner in 6-21.8, beating the previous fastest time over the 1.4-mile course by seven seconds, with Emily Lockwood (Cheltenham and County CC) clinching second in 7-23.4 and Avid Sport rider Josie Harcourt completing the podium in 7-44.3.
In the men’s event Fellows, riding for Solihull CC, set 5-21.6 to win ahead of Matthew Skeats (Uni of Bristol CC) who finished in 5-38.3 to narrowly see off the challenge of Cheltenham and County CC’s Dan Letherbarrow who was just half a second back in 5-38.8.
A host of other prizes were on offer at the event, with the Veteran 40 category won by Stroud Valley Velos’ Denny Stevens in 6-18.1, the Vet 50 award going to Karl Norris (360 VRT) in 5-55.8 and a time of 7-44.3 helping Alistair Hardy (Cheltenham and County CC) to take home the Vet 60 prize.
There was further success for Cath Taylor, of the promoting club, in winning the women’s Vet 50 group and for Bristol Road Club’s Harvey Thomas as fastest Junior in 5-39.0 and for George David, again of the host club, for winning the Espoir category.
This event, run on the UH14 course, starts just north of Wootton Under Edge on Coombe Lane and proceeds up Rushmire Hill for 1.4 miles until finishing at the top.
