Sian Marsh with the Sheila Wiseman Trophy

Sian Marsh and Josh Newbould took the honours as fastest female and male respectively in cold but clear conditions at Chippenham and District Wheelers 10 on Sunday morning.

Team Boompods rider Marsh completed the course in 24-22 to win the Sheila Wiseman trophy for first-placed woman, ultimately finishing just 24 seconds outside the women’s course record set by Jo Buckland (FTP Racing) in 2021.

In the men’s event 22-year-old Newbould, riding for Banbury Star Cyclists’ Club, set a time of 21-27 for overall first place, ahead of Cheltenham & County Cycling Club’s Tom Biggs in 21-31, while a time of 22-52 helped Niel Dunnage of PDQ Cycle Coaching finish third.

Having previously finished second at Banbury Star CC’s 23.5-mile TT on March 13 and third at at the 10-mile ECCA on March 19, this marks a first victory of the season for Newbould.

The 10-mile route, on course U41, starts just north of Aggregate Industries before heading south to the junction of Spine Road West and Spine Road East and turning left towards Cotswold Water Park, then towards Latton and through the village onwards along Cirencester Road before circling back past Cotswold Water Park and finishing near Clayhill Car Park.
