Angela Carpenter set a new women’s course record while James Boyman claimed a fourth consecutive win of the season at the Sussex CA 10-mile time trial on Saturday morning. 

In perfect calm conditions, A3crg rider Carpenter shaved one minutes and 15 seconds off the existing record to finish in 23-36, ahead of Pippa Jenkins (1904RT) who clocked 26-38, with third place going to Brighton Mitre’s Tracey Williams in 28-13. 

Hoops Velo member Boyman won the men’s event in 21-03, having previously won the Farnham RC 25-mile 2-up TT on July 17, the Brighton Exelsior CC 25-mile time trial a week earlier and the 10-mile North Hampshire RC time trial on July 9. 

Cris Coxon, of Brighton Mitre, took the runners-up spot in 21-39, with Team TMC’s Matthew Smith completing the podium in a time of 22-12. 

Cox and Williams also helped Brighton Mitre CC take the team prize alongside teammate Jack Smith with a total time of 1-14-26 ahead of local rivals Worthing Excelsior CC. 

Further records fell with Nic Stagg (Hounslow & District Wheelers) breaking the medium gear TT by eight seconds in 25-57, and Simon McNamara (HuntBikeWheels.com) reducing the road bike course record by 41 seconds, down to 22-32. 

Second place in the road bike category went to Matt Phipps-Taylor of Velosport CC in 23-36 and Sussex Revolution VC rider Olly Thomas clocked 23-58 to clinch third. 

The event, on course G10/45, starts on the edge of Foxbridge Lane by Foxbridge Golf Course, before heading southbound on Plaistow Road through Kidford, then turning north-easterly along Village Road then going northbound until Flitchfold Farm, where the 40 riders go westbound until Plaistow and finish just past the start on Plaistow Road.
