Matthew Smith (Team TMC) went fastest in the Sussex CA 15-mile time trial, while Tracey Williams (Brighton Mitre CC) was quickest in the women’s event.
Smith, 38, covered the G15/92 course in 30:59 which was just four seconds short of the course record and 18 seconds better than the next best rider.
In second spot was veteran Cris Coxon (Brighton Mitre CC) with 31:17, while taking third place was Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) who clocked 31:25.
This was Matthew Smith’s second win of the season so far, having won the Sussex CA 25 last month. It also gives him revenge over Coxon who pipped him to a podium spot in the Brighton Mitre CC 10 ten days earlier.
Smith is familiar with London South District courses, having finished on the podium in the East Sussex CA 25 in April as well as the East Sussex CA 10 events in April and March.
Tracey Williams was the lone female starter, but the 53-year-old clocked an impressive time of 40:30 to take the win. This marks three consecutive time trials where Williams has made the podium, two of which she has won.
This event took place on a single carriageway course on the A283 to Shoreham-by-Sea and back. Riders reported it was a pleasant morning with 14-16 degree temperatures with a light breeze that began to stir during the event.
The fastest team on the day was Team TMC led by winner Smith but also containing Nik Allen and Steve Kane who completed the course in 31:52 and 32:36.
In other categories 69-year-old Mark Vowells (San Fairy Ann CC) set a new National trike 15-mile record with a time of 38:50. And 81-year-old Alan Robinson of Central Sussex CC set a new Surrey/ Sussex veterans record with a time of 44:42.
