Christopher McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) beat his twin brother by 12 seconds to win the Brighton Mitre CC 10, while Anna Dwyer (Drag2Zero) was the women’s victor.

McNamara, aged 47, took his seventh open time trial victory of the season clocking a winning time of 19 minutes and 56 seconds on the flat G10/97 course.

Brighton Mitre CC hosted events for 64 riders over two courses on Bank Holiday Thursday with their 14th annual flat followed by their 20th annual hilly on the GS/995 course.

A calm morning greeted riders with a temperature between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius.

The flat G10/97 course saw riders head out and back along the A283 between north of Steyning and Shoreham-by-Sea.

Veteran rider McNamara recorded an average speed of over 30 miles per hour to add another win to his collection.

Despite the favourable conditions his winning time was slower than the 19-23 he recorded to win the Sussex CA 10 on the same course last month.

A close battle for second saw Simon McNamara (HuntBikeWheels.com) clock 20-08 which was just seven seconds faster than fellow veteran Chris Coxon of hosting club Brighton Mitre CC.

Quickest junior rider was Luke Goodwill (VC de Londres) who finished in 20-58 which was good enough for joint eighth.

Spindata had predicted a one-two for the McNamara brothers but both their times were slower than predicted.

In the women’s event Dwyer, aged 27, took her first victory of the season recording a time of 24-05.

Veteran rider Tracey Williams (Brighton Mitre CC) was the only other woman competing finishing second in 25-19.

The road bike event saw Mike Finch (HuntBikeWheels.com) take a comfortable victory recording an impressive time of 22-09.

Veteran Brian Molloy (Brighton Excelsior CC) took second in 24-30 which was just a single second quicker than Rory Knapp (Brighton Mitre CC).

Chris Woods (Crawley Wheelers) was the fastest rider on hub gears in 27-53 and Peter Owen (
Norwood Paragon CC) the best on a 72-inch gear.

The hilly event replicated the flat race before it but instead of carrying on north back past Steyning riders turned onto Bostal Road and up a one-mile climb to their finish.

The men’s event could not have been closer with Pat Wright (Paceline RT) and veteran Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers), riding a road bike, both recording 24-27 to share the victory.

Meanwhile Richard Cartland (HuntBikeWheels.com) completed the podium finishing third in 25-44.

A new trike course record was set by Mark Vowells (San Fairy Ann CC) setting a new benchmark of 30-33 which knocked 24 seconds off the previous record.

The only woman competitor over the hilly course was Tracey Williams (Brighton Mitre CC) who recorded a time of 31-54.
