Sally Turner

Sally Turner (trainSharp) made it two wins in two days at the Sussex CA 25-mile event near Steyning, while Matthew Smith was fastest man and led Team TMC to the team prize in Sunday morning’s event.

Turner clocked 58-33 to add to her win in the Sussex Ca the previous day. This time she was victorious by 3-20 while second spot went to Emma O’Toole (Nopinz Motip), with Katie Simmonds (Horsham Cycling being third0.

Smith’s time of 52-32 gave him the overall win by 44 seconds from Paceline RT veteran Pat Wright, while Smith’s team-mate at Team TMC Steven Kane was third fastest in 53-34.

Team TMC were the fastest trio with fourth-placed Nik Allen being their third counting rider.

It was a dry and sunny day, but a stiff wind on the outward leg meant Michael Hutchinson’s long-standing course record remained very safe.

In other categories Brighton Mitre CC’s Paul Thatcher was the best veteran on CTT target time with a plus of 16-09, beating Nik Allen who was 13-34 ahead of his target time.

And Southborough and District Wheelers’ youngster Henry Weaver was the fastest junior with a time of 1-10-37.

This was Matthew Smith’s first open win of the season so far after five rides. He was fifth in yesterday’s Sussex CA 10, but placed second in both the East Sussex CA 10 and 25 on March 27 and April 24 respectively.

And for Sally Turner this was win number six having won the East Sussex CA 15 in March, the VTTA 10, East Sussex CA 10 and 25 in April as well as the previous day’s Sussex Ca 10.
