Adam Kenway (Team Brother UK) claimed top spot in the Withington Wheelers hill climb on Sunday, while Megan Newberry (Storey Racing) was the winner of the women’s event.

Scratch-man Kenway, the former national champion, clocked a time of 2:20.7, over ten seconds quicker than anybody else.

Steven Prince (Ludlow Brewery RT) finished second with a time of 2:33.2. William Jeffery of Saint Piran clocked in at 2:35.2 to finish off the podium.

Kenway joined an exclusive club following this win. One of only three riders ever to win this event five times. It also marked his second win in the last three.

In the women’s event it was Morgan Newberry that was the quickest, 3:44.6 being the final time attributed to her.

Maya Branfoot (Wahoo Endurance Zone) claimed second place after she finished in 3:49.6. Following her time was Alice Larkin of Glossop Kinder Velo CC who clocked in at 3:57.0 to complete the podium.

This was the second hill climb of the season for Newberry who finished second in the first of those last month at the Yorkshire Road Club event. Building on a good start she now has one win for two and two podiums coming into hill climb season. Next up is the Glossop Kinder Velo next weekend.

The fastest team on the day consisted of Dominic Slinn, Christian Atkinson and Bhima Bowden. All members of the Macclesfield Wheelers.

The event raised around £200 for Macmillan, Bluebell Wood children's hospice and DEC disasters emergency committee as voted for by riders and marshals.
