Maddie Leach was crowned fastest female and Stephen Dooley was quickest man at the Warrington Road Club Ron Spencer Memorial 25 Mile Time Trial on Saturday afternoon, with Chester Romei also setting a new juvenile course record.

CAMS Racing’s Leach finished in 57 minutes and 44 seconds to take the women’s title – and fifth overall - ahead of Gaynor Beckett (Total Tri Training) in 1-07-59 and Michelle Fairclough (Salford Cycling Club) who clocked 1-09-19 for third on a dry, hot and windy afternoon in Cheshire.

In the men’s event, Dooley, of Seamons CC, set 55-53 to narrowly edge out Alan Broadbent (Graham Weigh Racing – Deeside Olympic) who was six seconds back in 55-59, with Buxton CC’s John Peasland finishing third in 57-11.

There was also notable success for North Shropshire Wheelers rider Chester Romei, whose time of 1-02-12 lowered the previous juvenile course record of 1-04-10 – set in 2017 - by nearly two minutes.

Elsewhere, Matt Lovatt (Congleton CC) raced to victory in the road bike category, recording 56-24 in the process also being named fastest veteran on standard in +11.46.

This event, run on the J4/8 course, starts on Kings Lane then turns left to head southwest towards Byley, before a left turn towards Cranage and northwest on the A50 past Alstock and Lach Dennis to Rudheath where the route turns back southwesterly on the A556 and onto the 530 to Middlewich before turning northwards again and finishing just past Byley.
