Congleton CC veteran Lucy Rogers continued a rich run of form, being fastest female at the Manchester and District Ladies’ CA 10-mile event near Byley in Cheshire, while quickest of the men was David Parkin (Chorley CC).
Rogers completed the 10 miles a full minute quicker than any other female rider, her winning time being 23:38.
Second place was Claire Harrison who came in at 24:39 to complete a Congleton CC one-two. Bury Clarion crashed the party with Katherine Swithenbank clocking 25:52 to take the final podium spot.
The event included a handicap category, with Tracy Gregory (Buxton CC) winning with an adjusted 16-10, 20 seconds better than Rogers with 16-30 adjusted.
53-year-old Rogers is coming off the back of a very busy May which saw her win three events with an accumulated total of 123 miles in a two-week time span.
First was a victory in the Dukinfield CC 50, followed by another win in the Manchester & Dist TTA 25 and to finish the month she was fastest in the Warrington RC 47.
After riding the Burton and District CA 25 on Sunday where she finished third, Rogers now has no open events in her calendar until the National 50-mile Championships at the end of this month, an event in which she cracked the top 10 last year.
In the men’s invitation event it was David Parkin that rode the fastest time, finishing in 20:27.
Alastair Ribbands was another member of Congleton CC to take a top three finish, coming in second with a time of 20:35, while Alistair Rutherford (Manchester Bicycle Club) clinched the final podium spot with 22:05.
Parkin, 35, had won two of his last three events prior to this, tasting victory in the Warrington RC 47 and the Southport CC 10. But since then he had only competed in one event – the Anfield Bicycle Club 100-mile time trial where he finished third. Now, 8 days later he is back to winning ways.
