Congleton CC’s Lucy Rogers and Tom Thornely (Buxton CC-Sett Valley Cycles) were fastest female and male riders respectively at the 94th Dukinfield CC 50-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon.

53-year-old Rogers – who placed tenth in last season’s National 50-Mile Championships - covered the J4/9 course near Cranage in 2-05-38 to win the women’s prize by 6-24 from team-mate Claire Harrison, while third quickest woman was Jessica Haney (Mersey Tri) who was another 36 seconds off the pace.

39-year-old Thornely covered the distance in 1-48-51 to win by 1-32 from Alan Chorley (Seamons CC) with third going to Thornely’s colleague at Buxton CC Mat Ivings with 1-50-35.

Chorley led Seamons CC to the team prize after he was joined in the victorious trio by Stephen Dooley and Richard Shaw who were sixth and seventh overall with 1-55-05 and 1-55-25 respectively.

Stafford Tri Club rider Jonathan Weavell was top rider on handicap with an adjusted time of 1-35-55 giving him the win in that category by 39 seconds from Andy Riley (Team Bottrill) with Thomas Garbett (Total Tri Training) third on handicap and fourth overall.

This was Rogers’ fifth open time trial victory of the season so far, as she continues to enjoy good form. She won the Manchester Wheelers and Stockport Clarion 10 last weekend, and before that has tasted victory in the Manchester and District Ladies CA 10 and two of the Manchester and District TTA 10s back in March.

She is next due to be in action in the Manchester and District TTA 25 next Saturday.

Thornely was victorious in last weekend’s Matlock CC 10-mile event in Derbyshire which was his first open time trial of the season.

This event used the popular J4/9 course which begins near Cranage and heads north west over the M6 through Lach Dennis and on to the outskirts of Northwich before turning back south for Middlewich. Riders then go through Byley and back to Cranage for three more laps, finishing near Middlewich on the final circuit.
