There was double delight for Congleton CC as Lucy Rogers and Alastair Ribbands were fastest male and fastest female respectively at the Manchester Wheelers 10-mile time trial on Saturday morning.

In the women’s event, Rogers’ time of 24-02 ensured she finished 1-52 ahead of clubmate Lynsey Astles who clocked 26-10, with Manchester Triathlon Club’s Elisabeth Ogbonmwan third in 26-56.

The men’s event was much closer, with Ribbands, in 20-37, just 13 seconds ahead of Kouros Driscoll (Seamons CC) who managed 20-50, while 21-33 was enough for Kamil Waligora of East Lancashire RC to take third place.

Victory continues Ribbands’ fine form in the Cheshire Points Series this season, marking his fifth win from the six events so far.

The 39-year-old finished second in the opening Manchester & District TTA event, before winning the next Manchester & District TTA, and following it up with successes at Stretford Wheelers, Withington Wheelers, Macclesfield Wheelers and now Manchester Wheelers.

Elsewhere, Mark Chadwick (Wigan Wheelers CC) was fastest veteran in 21-40, while Cycling Sheffield rider James Hawkins finished in 23-20 to complete the course as fastest Espoir and fastest junior was Johnny Robinson, of SportCity Velo, in 24-52.

This event is the sixth of the Cheshire Points Series and is held on course J2/1, which starts in Monks Heath and passes Chelford, Marthall and Ollerton, then turning at the roundabout on Gough Lane just before Knutsford and retracing the course to the finish line.
