Sean Mullen

Sean Mullen (Port Sunlight Wheelers) was fastest male at Crewe Clarion Wheelers 16.5-mile time trial in Cheshire, while quickest woman was Keri Parton of Team Boompods.

25-year-old Mullen was the only rider to go under the half hour mark, clocking 29:26 to justify his starting position as scratch man.

31:19 was the time of second placed rider Alastair Ribbands (Congleton CC) who won the previous day’s Stretford Wheelers 10, and following that was Mat Ivings (Buxton CC) who clinched third with 32:24.

This was Mullen’s first open time trial of the season, and the victory continues a good run of wins that saw him take victory in the Velotik RT 15, the Liverpool Century RC 10 and the Fibrax Wrexham RC 25 last year.

In the women’s event it was Parton that came out on top, finishing in a time of 35:41 which was 35 seconds quicker than any other woman.

Keri Parton

The next fastest female was veteran Lucy Rogers (Congleton CC) who completed the course in 36:16 while Jayne Dickens took third place, more than four minutes further back.

This was Parton’s first open event of the year, with her last time trial being September of 2021 where she finished first in the Midlands VTTA 10. Her race distances vary but Parton tends to be a long-distance specialist having finished in the top ten of the National 50-Mile Championship last year.

The J8/2r circuit begins in Nantwich on Broad Lane then heads through Audlem and Woore before heading up the A51 just through Stapeley and finishing back in Nantwich on London Road.
