Alastair Ribbands was the fastest male and Maddie Leech the fastest female at Stretford Wheelers 10-mile time trial in Cheshire on Saturday afternoon.
Ribbands, the 38-year-old rider from Congleton CC, recorded a time of 21-04 for victory which was 12 seconds ahead of second-placed Harry Jordan (Otley CC). Velotik Racing Team’s David James Williams took third place in 21:35.
In the women’s event Leech (CAMS Racing) finished fastest in 22-23 while Jessica Roberts, from Team Coop-Hitec Products, secured second place with a time of 23-12 and third place went to Sophie Lewis (CC Ashwell) in 23-47.
As well as finishing second overall Jordan was also the fastest junior, with Birkenhead North End CC’s Reuben Corlett recording a time of 23-31, while first junior was Nicholas Smith of Westmead Team 88 in 27-11.
Ribbands’ overall victory helped Congleton CC take the team prize in a total time of 1-09-59, while the veteran on standard title went to Walsall Roads CC rider Joseph Costello in +5-25.
Despite motorway road closures forcing extra traffic onto the roads, 45 riders began the route on the 10-mile J4/20 course, which is the third of 10 events in the Cheshire Points Series.
The course begins in Byley and then heads north east through Swan Green and Lower Peover before reaching Toft and looping back south-bound to Allostock, heading west at Cranage and finishing on Moss Lane.
This latest victory continues a fine start to the season for Ribbands, who recorded a first and second place in the first two Cheshire points series events of the year, and he will hope to continue that form at Withington Wheelers 25-mile TT on April 6.
