Angharad Berriman was fastest woman while Alex McCormack triumphed in the men’s event at City Cycle Couriers RT’s Jennycliff hill climb in Devon on Sunday morning.
Penzance Wheelers rider Berriman clocked 3-37.0 on the 0.7-mile course to secure success ahead of Mid Devon CC’s Fiona German, who finished in 3-42.5, while a time of 3-51.2 was enough for Berriman’s team-mate Martina Geraghty to take the final podium spot.
In the men’s event, McCormack (Cleveland Wheelers) finished in 2-28.6 to win ahead of Mid Devon CC pair Felix Whetter who set a time of 2-35.9, and Callum Start, a second back in 2-36.9 for third.
McCormack finally earned success on the course after finishing third on the Jennycliff climb at the same event in 2021, while there was plenty of success for young riders with five of the top six all in the junior category.
Runner-up Whetter also continued an encouraging season, having previously finished sixth on the Exeter Wheelers Stoke Hill and Mid Devon CC’s Widecombe hill climb events earlier this season.
This event starts at the Jennycliff Car Park entrance and proceeds up Staddon Lane for 0.7 miles, to finish just past the Golf Club entrance.
