Will Piccin-White earned a narrow victory at Tavistock Wheelers’ Rundlestone Hill Climb on Sunday morning while Angharad Berriman was named fastest female.
Wheal Velocity rider White set a time of 7-05.5 to take the win from Mid Devon CC’s Callum Start who was just 0.3 seconds behind in second place in 7-05.08 with Peter Norris of Cycle Sport South Hams, finished in 07-26.8 to take third place.
In the women’s event Berriman (Penzance Wheelers CC) won convincingly in 09-57-2 while Cordelia Preece, from the promoting club, was second in 14-41.1.
Elsewhere, the 18-year-old Start was also fastest Junior/Juvenile with Ben Meek runner-up in 8-00.1 and Meek’s clubmate Abe Reid making it a Mid-Devon CC top three in 8-02.4.
This is Piccin-White’s first victory in four hill climbs, with a previous best finish of ninth at the City Cycle Couriers climb up Jennycliffe on October 10 2021.
The course sees riders complete a route up Rundlestone Hill, with the climb averaging 8-10% gradient.
