Nigel Polkinghorne (Duchy Velo) was the fastest man in the City Cycle Couriers 13-mile time trial, while Alice Lake (Cranbrook Cycle Club) was the winner of the women’s event.
Polkinghorne, aged 48, headed the field posting a winning time of 29 minutes and 56 seconds, a time over 30 seconds quicker than his nearest rival.
Taking second place was Jon Tune of the promoting club, who finished in 30-30. Taking the final podium spot was fellow City Cycle Couriers RT Rob Scott, as the host club placed two riders on the podium, his final time was 30-36.
Polkinghorne picked up his first win since his promoting club’s event in June.
He was close on his last ride out, finishing second in the Wadebridge Coasters 10 and went one better on this occasion. Polkinghorne was scheduled to ride in the City Cycle Couriers 10 last month but was unable to attend, he made up for that absence with this performance.
In the women’s event it was Alice Lake that came out victorious, completing the 13-mile ride in 35-39.
Sophie Butcher (Tri Logic Cornwall) was the only other woman competitor completing the course in 37-37 to take second place on the day.
Over the last three months Lake has finished on the podium three times, one of those times being at win. That win took place at the Plymouth Corinthian CC 50 a few weeks back, her most recent outing. Therefore this win marks back-to-back victories.
