William Barr secured victory at the City Cycle Couriers 10-mile time trial in Devon on Saturday afternoon.
Beacon Roads CC rider Barr was the only competitor to finish the course in under 20-00, clocking 19-28 on his way to first place ahead of Alexander Ballinger (George Fox Cycle Solutions) who finished in 20-15, while Rob Scott, riding for the promoting club, took third place in 20-43.
Mid Devon CC’s Mark Sanders claimed fastest veteran in 21-07, just two seconds faster than Chris Vellacott of Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA in 21-09 and North Devon velo rider Phillip Ley who registered 21-24.
The route, held on course S4/10, starts on the A38 just south west of Buckfastleigh and opposite Dean Prior Parish Church then proceeds northeastwards towards Exeter, taking the second slip road signed Ashburton to head left then turning right and bearing right in 50 yards to cross A38 and rejoin the A38 towards Plymouth.
The 19-strong field then retraced the outward route, passing Ashburton, Buckfastleigh and the slip road signed Lower Dean to finish approximately 500 yards before Dean Prior Church.
In just his second open time trial of the year, Barr clocked his first victory having finished fourth in the Coventry CC 10-mile time trial on May 1 and will be hoping for further success should he compete at the Hemel Hempstead CC 10-mile time trial on June 18.
