Nigel Polkinghorne and Tom Smith were fastest men while Beth Berriman and Martina Geraghty were fastest women at the Penzance Wheelers two-up 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning.
Amid -4° temperatures on the course, Martina Geraghty and Beth Berriman triumphed on their home course in 26-33 ahead of St Piran’s Jenny Bolsom and Gemma Sargent who recorded 28-32, with Amy James (St Piran) and Rebecca Paisley (Penzance Wheelers) third in 28-13.
Geraghty and Berriman, having never raced together before in an open time trial, have both shown excellent early season form with Berriman hoping to build on this victory at the Penzance Wheelers’ 22-mile Sporting on April 17.
In the men’s race, Duchy Velo pair Nigel Polkinghorne and Tom Smith claimed victory in 23-53, a full 20 seconds ahead of Anthony Green and Kev Dawson from host club Penzance Wheelers, while their clubmates John Morse and Martin McDowall finished third in 25-48.
Taking place on the 10-mile S6/10 course, the time trial starts at the entrance to Trecurno and heading northeastwards before proceeding through Ladock and Newmills, turning at Brighton roundabout and heading back past Newills and Ladock.
In the individual time trial, Andrew Jason (City Cycle Couriers) won the men’s race with St Austell Wheelers’ Rose Willis winning the women’s category. See the solo event listing for a full report of that event.
