Adam Kenway (Team Brother UK) was the only rider to beat the three-minute mark as he clinched victory at the Vive Le Velo hill climb on Flixton Brow, while Harri Wilson (Jadan Vive Le Velo) won the women’s event.
Kenway, aged 35, completed the climb, which is just under one kilometre in length, posting a winning time of two minutes and 54 seconds – just three seconds slower than the fastest time recorded on Strava.
The Flixton Brow climb, near Scarborough, is short and sharp with a maximum gradient of 20% and has an altitude gain of 100 metres inside a kilometre of racing.
It was the first time the event had been held in three years and competitors were greeted by wet and windy conditions.
The win was Kenway’s fourth of the season and third hill climb as he prepares for the National Hill Climb Championships in two weeks’ time.
Ian Duffield (PMRR) finished second in 3-11 while quickest veteran Simon Warren (Norwood Paragon CC) completed the podium positions clocking a time of 3-36.
Andy Askwith was fourth for the organising club with a strong 3-52 which helped Vive Le Velo to the team prize alongside Seb Pickard (4-50) and Luke Jones (5-19).
Wilson took individual glory for the organising team in the women’s event completing the climb in a winning time of four minutes and 14 seconds which was good enough to place her sixth overall.
The 27-year-old was competing in her first open time trial event and showed her potential for more wins in the future.
Hannah Bayes (Saint Piran) had to settle for second on this occasion finishing two seconds behind Wilson in 4-16 and Kirstie Drakeford (Jadan Vive le Velo) was third 4-24.
Testing herself on her local climb quickest juvenile Jasmine Townend (Scarborough Paragon) recorded a time of 5-09 and was fourth female overall.
