Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) took victory by 12 seconds as she clinched the women’s RTTC National 10-mile Championship in Yorkshire.

The 37-year-old who also won the National 50-mile Championships earlier this season set a winning time of 21 minutes and nine seconds for her second national crown of the season.

The V714 saw riders compete on an out and back course starting near Gilberdyke, between Hull and Selby, before heading out with a westerly tailwind out to Howden on the B1230 and then making the slightly longer return journey into a headwind.

Allan was beaten in the National 25-mile Championships in June but returned with vengeance recording an average speed of over 28.36 miles per hour to take victory by 12 seconds.

Former National 10-mile Champion from 2020 Emily Meakin (AWOL O’Shea Worx) was her closest challenger with a storming ride of 21-21 to take silver.

National Circuit Champion, Jennifer George (The Independent Pedaler - Nopinz) was also in contention settling for third this time out a further nine seconds back (21-30).

Scratch rider Joanna Patterson (Wahoo Endurance Zone p/b Le Col) was a non-starter along with Neah Evans (Team HUUB)

“I’m really pleased and genuinely wasn’t expecting it,” said Allan.

“I had no problems and a clear run, I didn’t get held up and it went really well. I did a course recce in the morning but by the time I raced the wind had changed direction.

“There was a tailwind out and I did the first five miles in just over 10 minutes but it was hard on the way back.

“I didn’t burn my matches too quickly in the first few miles and then just put it down for the rest.”

Spindata had predicted that Allan would take the title in 20-41 but a windy afternoon meant her time was slightly slower.

“The Spindata prediction was taken from my long-distance stuff so I didn’t want to get ahead of myself,” added Allan.

“I have posted some decent times this year so I felt a bit of pressure.”
