Richard Dean (Trek Sheffield) was quickest rider by just four seconds at the Otley CC 25-mile time trial in North Yorkshire on Saturday, covering the distance in 55-15.
The 43-year-old from Cudworth, near Barnsley, took the win from Elliot Gowland (Durham Triathlon Club) who clocked 55-19, while third spot went to Otley CC’s Matthew Asquith who was another 1-20 behind.
Beacon Roads CC rider George Thorne was fourth with 56-48, while Mike Furby (Valley Striders CC) clocked 58-50 for fifth overall and also took home the veterans’ prize – the top three fastest are all veterans too, but Furby wins the category on the ‘one rider one prize’ rule.
The V235 course uses the A168 alongside the A1, and begins near Marton-cum-Grafton, heading south to Walshford before turning back north to Minskip, where they turn again and head all the way back to Walshford, then back to the finish near Marton-cum-Grafton.
This was Dean’s first open time trial victory of the season, but comes after he placed third in the Ravensthorpe CC 8, the East Bradford CC 15 and the Yorkshire Road Club 25 on the same course in June, where he was four seconds slower.
He is next due to be in action at the Yorkshire VTTA 10 on August 7 as well as riding the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 25 next Saturday on the same Boroughbridge course as today’s event, and has also entered the National 10-Mile Championship later in the month in East Yorkshire.
No women rode the Otley CC event unfortunately.
