Marcel Schubert (Darlington Cycling Club) took his 10th open time trial win of the season at the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 50, while Jan Scotchford (North Lancashire Road Club) won the women’s event.
Schubert, from Darlington, refined his preparations for next weekend’s National 100-mile Championships by recording a winning time of one hour, 46 minutes and 28 seconds.
The 40-year-old who finished second in last weekend’s National 50-mile Championships showed his form once again winning at an average speed of over 28.1 miles per hour.
The event was run on a new version of the usual V150, on the A168 between Boroughbridge and Walshford, North Yorkshire.
The course had been modified to avoid Kirk Deighton roundabout which is now in need of repair having a number of holes on the usual riding line.
Riders were greeted by a mainly fine afternoon, sunny periods with a few spots of rain, but still a bit breezy which slowed times.
Undulating terrain also slowed times with two short climbs and one drag on the out and back course which was completed two-and-a-half times.
Schubert was a comfortable winner with his time 12 minutes quicker than fellow veteran Chris Watts (Ilkley CC) who led the battle behind taking second in 1-58-47.
A three-way battle for third saw Sean Sanders (Drighlington BC) finish in 1-59-44 which was a single second faster than para-cyclist Martin Hailstone (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) in fourth overall while Steven Forrest (Fogartys Insurance Tri Team) was a further five seconds back.
“It was bit windy,” said Schubert.
“There was a last-minute course change which meant the course had plenty of elevation and crosswinds.
“The tall trees which lined parts of the course had plenty of gaps which led to gusts. It was one of the longer distance events I could find in preparation for next week’s National 100.”
Tandem pairing, Adam Duggleby (Chapeau! Vive le Velo) and Chris McDonald (PDQ Cycle Coaching) were the fastest on the day recording an outstanding time of 1-40-28.
In the women’s event veteran rider Scotchford took victory in a winning time of two hours, 13 minutes and 32 seconds.
Scotchford, aged 55, finished third in the Manchester & District Ladies CA 25 on her last outing but went two places better this time out recording an average speed of over 22.4 miles per hour.
Fellow veteran Liz Ball (Valley Striders Cycling Club) led the chase behind taking second in 2-20-27 while Susan Sanders (Drighlington BC) was third (2-31-04).
