Paralympic champion Adam Duggleby claimed a dramatic victory as fastest man at Otley CC 10-mile event in North Yorkshire, while Abi Smith was fastest in the women’s event in windy conditions on Saturday afternoon.
Beverley-born Duggleby, 37, finished just one second ahead of 16-year-old rising star Jacob Bush (Team Bottrill) with Otley CC’s Sam Ward third in 21-02.
Duggleby, riding for Chapeau! Vive Le Velo, won two gold medals at the Rio 2016 Paralympics as a sighted pilot for Stephen Bates in the individual pursuit B and the road time trial B, while he was crowned the British Best All-Rounder in 2017.
In the women’s event Moonglu CC rider Smith, who turned 20 at the start of April, took a convincing win in 21-56, with an impressive winning margin of 2-02 over Trek Sheffield’s Josie Smith (23-58) in second, while a time of 25-04 helped Molly Savill, of Albarosa CC, take third place.
Hebe Picking was fastest junior in 26-21, with second place going to Otley CC’s Katherine Bucknell in 31-38 and a time of 32-53 helping Evie Turner third place.
Bush claimed the Junior Male title, with Toby Bush second in 21-46 and third going to Otley Rider Harry Jordan in 22-18.
The 10-mile route, on course V212, starts south of Boroughbridge on the A168, before turning left and heading to Walshford roundabout, then encircling the roundabout and retracing the path along the A168 to Arkendale Road.
