Under-23 rider Maddie Leech (CAMS Racing) smashed the women’s course record on her way to winning the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 10, while junior Matthew Cole (Team Bottrill) won the men’s event.

Leech, aged 18 and from Huddersfield, set a new women’s benchmark time on the V212 of 21 minutes and 58 seconds, finishing over four minutes clear of her nearest challenger.

Former junior National 25-mile Champion, Leech showed her talent once again to take victory on her first open time trial outing of the season.

The V212 starts south of Boroughbridge at Rabbit Hill Business Park before travelling down the A168 to Walshford with riders then retracing their steps on a traditional out and back course.

A favourable strong tailwind on the return journey meant that riders were helped on the uphill rise back to the finish.

In the women’s event Leech smashed the previous course record of 23-15 held by Brit Tate.

Veteran Sarah Harrison (Sheffield Triathlon Club) led the battle for second finishing runner-up in 25-05 just 19 seconds ahead of Sue McFarlane (Army Cycling).

In the men’s event junior rider Matthew Cole (Team Bottrill) took his first senior open time trial victory in a time of 20-25.

John Brearley (Squadra RT) won the Sheffrec CC two-up last weekend but had to settle for second this time out clocking 20-49.

David Brearley (Chapeau! Vive Le Velo) joined his brother in the two-up last weekend but finished six seconds behind his family member taking third in 20-55.

Quickest veteran on scratch was Neil Fearn (Harrogate Nova CC) who finished fifth overall in 21-42.

In the road bike event scratch rider John Blomeley (Yorkshire Road Club) took victory on his first open outing of the season in 23-15.

Road rider Joe Hepworth (Valley Striders Cycling Club) finished second in 24-24 while Tim Bennett (Clifton CC York) finished third (25-15).

The women’s road bike event was dominated by Valley Striders Cycling Club riders with Julia Davies winning in 26-21 ahead of team-mates Rachel Meredith in second (27-04) and Eleanor Stafford in third (27-58).
