Francis Eades and Trudy Kearney took wins for the promoting club at the Islington CC hill-climb, staged on Bow Brickhill in Buckinghamshire on Sunday.
With a large majority of the riders who competed all being from Islington CC, it was perhaps not surprising that they provided fastest male and female but take nothing away from their performances.
Eades looked impressive as he powered up the 0.65km Church Road climb in 1-28.4, winning by 1.8 seconds from veteran rider Piers Curle (Onyx RT), with Seamus Madine (Islington CC) taking third.
Kearney clocked 2-11.2 to secure the women’s win by just 0.2 seconds from juvenile Eloise Ward (Lee Valley YCC), with third going to Olivia Hobden of Islington CC, 49 seconds off Kearney’s pace.
This was Eades’ first open victory of the season, but he posted top ten results on two previous occasions with ninth at the Sheffrec CC climb of Monsal Head, while he was sixth at Berkhamsted CC’s climb last month.
While Curle was fastest veteran in second overall, top junior rider was Douglas Davies, the Islington CC rider whose time of 1-42.2 gave him seventh overall. Lee Valley YCC youngster Toby Tombs was fastest juvenile with 1-47.4, while Eloise Ward was quickest female juvenile, as well as second female overall.
