Chris McNamara (Nuun-Sigma Sport-London RT) knocked over two minutes off his previous course record to win the Finsbury Park CC 50, while Kim Barfoot-Brace (Bath Cycling Club) was the women’s winner.

McNamara, aged 47, posted a winning time of one hour, 36 minutes and 11 seconds on the A428 in Cambridgeshire knocking two minutes and 25 seconds off his own previous record.

The F2/50 saw riders start on Saint Neots Road before joining the A428 at Hardwick Interchange heading out westerly to Cambourne before circling the roundabout at Caxton Gibbett and heading back towards Cambridge turning again at Madingley.

Riders completed three complete out and back laps before finishing at Madingley on the fourth lap.

Conditions presented a moderate westerly wind, (about nine miles per hour), assisting riders on the Madingley to Caxton Gibbett leg, with return, Caxton to Madingley, into the wind, providing a couple of faster gradients.

McNamara clinched his 10th victory of the season finishing almost five minutes clear of his nearest competitor.

Ross Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) continued his consistent season with a third podium finish from four rides clocking 1-41-03.

Meanwhile, Simon McNamara (HuntBikeWheels.com) finished third completing the course in 1-41-26.

Another pair setting a course record was the Newbury Velo tandem pair of Rachael Elliott and Ian Greenstreet who lowered their own tandem course record by one minute and five seconds to 1-40-29.

The women’s event saw veteran rider Barfoot-Brace set a winning time of 1-55-55.

The 41-year-old, from Bath, was National 12-hour Champion last season and took victory by one-and-a-half minutes this time out.

Helen Roby (High Wycombe CC) finished second in 1-57-25 while Virginia McGee (...a3crg) completed the podium positions in third (2-08-57).
