Fennell and George stomp to victories in Kent CA 25

Independent Pedaler – Nopinz team-mates Christopher Fennell and Jennifer George showed their form by taking clear victories in the Kent CA 25.

Fennell won five national titles last season and got his 2022 campaign off to a winning start in the men’s event clocking a time of 51 minutes and 27 seconds.

Meanwhile, George showed her intent for this campaign clocking 55-54 some six minutes clear of her nearest women’s competitor.

The Q25/12 saw riders start near New Romney before heading north-westerly on the A259 out to Brenzett before heading down to Brookland.

The long third leg of the course saw riders retrace their steps back to Brenzett and then joining the A2042 continuing north to Ashford before heading back to the finish on the road to New Romney.

Fennell recorded 21 wins last season, only beaten once, and opened his campaign for 2022 with victory by 58 seconds.

His brother Nicholas Fennell (Thanet RC) led the challenge behind for the podium places clocking 52-25 which was just three seconds faster than quickest veteran on scratch Ronnie Stone (Regents Park Rouleurs).

The men’s road bike category was also a closely fought contest with Huseyin Vardal (Gemini BC) clocking 57-24 which was just five seconds quicker than team-mate Neil Harrigan.

In the women’s event George took her second win of the long weekend recording a winning time of 55-54.

On Good Friday George won the …A3crg 10 in 20-46 and made it a weekend double winning by over six minutes.

Quickest veteran Kate Thomas (Lewes Wanderers CC) led the chase behind clocking 1-01-59 ahead of Rebecca Wilson (Rye & District Wheelers CC) in third (1-04-49).

In the women’s road bike category Julia Barte (1904RT) was fastest in 1-09-24 ahead of Gillian Selman (Old Portlians CC) completing the course in 1-12-28.
