Turton and Wilkinson-Begg best veterans at VTTA Kent 10

Paul Turton (Team Vision Racing – Silverhook) was the best veteran on standard and scratch in the VTTA (Kent Group) 10, while Tracy Wilkinson-Begg (TWB – On Time Race Team) won the women’s event.

Turton, aged 50, was the quickest veteran clocking a time of 21 minutes and 30 seconds which equated to a winning standard of +5.21.

However, it was 30-year-old Nicholas Trbovic (Cheshire Maverick Cycle Club) who was fastest non-veteran on scratch with a winning time of 20-03.

The Q10/24 saw riders start and finish at the Isle of Grain before competing out and back on the A228 and rising to the turn at Fenn Street before making the slightly easier return journey.

A pleasant and sunny afternoon greeted riders who faced a nagging headwind on the generally faster return leg.

Turton also won the Maldon & District Hilly event last week and was the best veteran on this occasion.

Steve Gooch (Rye & District Wheelers CC) was second veteran on standard in +5.14 while 69-year-old trike rider Mark Vowells (San Fairy Ann CC) finished third on standard with his 26-10 equating to +5.10.

Meanwhile in the overall scratch event Trbovic went one position better than his second in the Hart Performance Coaching Spring Classic going over 30 seconds faster on this occasion.

Jacob Storey (Partenza-Nude Espresso RT) finished second overall on scratch in 20-40 while quickest veteran Turton was third (21-30).

In the women’s event Wilkinson-Begg was the only rider with the 55-year-old completing the course in a time of 27-10 equating to a standard of +2.44.
