Kieran Wynne-Cattanach pulled off a stunning victory on Lancashire Road Club’s iconic Ramsbottom Rake hill climb while Rebecca Richardson triumphed in the women’s event on Sunday morning.

Team Lifting Gear Products rider Wynne-Cattanach defeated reigning national hill climb champion and pre-race favourite Tom Bell to take a second successive win following his success at the Welsh Hill Climb Championships a week ago.

North Walian Wynne-Cattanach set a time of 2-26.0 to beat High North Performance rider Bell who clocked 2-27.1, with Jude Taylor (Team PB Performance) securing third place in 2-32.7.

With the National Hill Climb Championships due to be contested on October 31 in Denbighshire, Wynne-Cattanach has thrown himself into contention for the title.

On his victory, he said: “It is great to win. Besides the National Hill Climb Championships, I get the most nerves and pre-race anxiety at The Rake because it is one of the big ones.

“It’s just a great atmosphere, it’s really nice and I’ll remember today for a while.”

Richardson, riding for Team Brother UK, clocked 3-16.8 on her way to a dominant win with Clwb Beicio Egni/Energy Cycling Club rider Bronwen Jenkinson second in 3-32.5 and a time of 4-00.6 helping Alice Larkin of Glossop Kinder Velo Cycling Club to take third place.

Wynne-Cattanach’s success helped Team Lifting Gear Products clinch the team prize, with his team-mate Nicholas Latimer named fastest veteran in 2-36.9, while Jacob Bradbury earned quickest Juvenile in 3-12 and Maxwell Hereward earned best junior in 2-44.8.

This event, run on the L812 course, lasts 947 yards with an average gradient of 1 in 5 and starts in Carr Street and proceeds via Carr Street, Tanner Street, Rawsons Rake and The Rake to finish opposite Exeter Cottage on Chapel Lane.
