Fiona Davidson and Liam Beaty were quickest female and male riders respectively at the Border City Wheelers 10-mile time trial near Keswick in Cumbria on Saturday afternoon.
Davidson, the 54-year-old from Perthshire who rides for Dundee Wheelers, clocked 25-11 for the L1010 course, giving her victory in the women’s category by 21 seconds from the promoting club’s Carol Westmorland, while third was Dumfries CC rider Esther Hamill with 25-54.
In the men’s category Beaty, 36 and riding for Hawick CC, clocked 19-06 to win by exactly one minute from David Parkin (Chorley CC), while Alastair McNicol (Dooley’s RT) was just one second further back in third.
It continued to be closely-fought down the order with Jason Bateman (VTTA North Lancs and Lakes) fourth in 20-15 and just one second better than Craig Horsman (Giant Kendal Sidas) and Richard Nesfield (Beacon Wheelers) who tied for fifth.
Beginning alongside Bassenthwaite Lake, the L1010 course takes riders down to Braithwaite and along to Keswick, before turning back and finishing just before the start point.
It was cool with a hint of drizzle, and only a light south westerly wind for the riders to contend with.
This was Beaty’s second victory of the season in open time trialling following his win at the Barrow Central Wheelers 10 in June, while he was second in the VTTA (North Lancs and Lakes) 50 last month.
He was also due to ride the Border City Wheelers 25 near Cockermouth on August 7, and has entered the St Christophers CC 25-mile event in Scotland, which is also the Scottish Distroct Championships.
