Matthew Roberts (Team Bottrill) took a slender victory by just four seconds at the East Lancashire Road Club 25, while Joanna Cebrat (Bury Clarion CC) won the women’s event.

Roberts, aged 35, took his first ever open time trial victory recording a winning time of 50 minutes and 36 seconds.

The L2524 saw riders start and finish near Levens in Cumbria with competitors completing two laps of an out and back course along the A590 and then B5277 into the turn at Lindale.

Despite having a downhill start on the return leg riders had to climb to the turn near Sedgwick before completing a second lap finishing just before the climb on the second lap.

Perfect conditions greeted riders with a low wind of between two and three miles per hour and a temperature of 18 degrees Celsius.

On his last outing Roberts finished second in the WCCTA & SCCA 30 clocking 1-04-29 but went one better on this occasion.

Scratch rider Kamil Waligora (East Lancashire RC) was also looking for his first ever open victory but was denied by just four seconds battling to the end but stopping the clock in 50-40.

Early starter David Parkin (Chorley Cycling Club) is no stranger to open victories and was engrossed in the battle for victory eventually finishing nine seconds down on the winner in 50-45.

Spindata had predicted Parkin would take victory in 51-10, despite him taking 25 seconds off that time his 50-45 was only good enough for third.

Quickest veteran rider on scratch was Derek Parkinson (Springfield Financial Racing Team) finishing sixth overall in 52-22 while Davey Allanson (Bury Clarion CC) was quickest juvenile boy in 1-03-40.

In the women’s event veteran rider Cebrat, aged 43, recorded a winning time of one hour, one minute and 15 seconds.

Cebrat, from Manchester, finished ninth and second veteran woman in the National 100-mile Championship on her last outing and showed her form to win by 49 seconds.

Katherine Swithenbank (Bury Clarion CC) finished second in 1-02-04 while Theresa Taylor (Springfield Financial Racing Team) finished third a further 35 seconds back.

The quickest juvenile girl was Sophie Heighton (Ferryhill Whs) who completed the course in 1-06-31.
