Beth Macrae set a personal best as she finished fastest female at the Springfield Financial Racing Team 10, while Chris Smart was fastest male at the event in Cumbria on Saturday evening.
Ayr Roads rider Macrae set a blistering time of 21-52 to lower her PB, while Karen Bailey took second with 23-12 and Janet Fairclough was third in 23-29.
In the men’s event, Smart (GTR – Return To Life) set a time of 18-39 to win, just 01-10 outside the current course record registered by Simon Wilson (Ribble Weldtite Pro Cycling) in September 2021.
Manchester Wheelers rider Gavin McCloskey-Lambert took second in 19-09, while David Parkin, of Chorley Cycling Club, was close behind in 19-16.
This event, run on the L1015 course, started just east of Levens and proceeded along the A590 in a south-westerly direction, encircling the Lindale by-pass roundabout and retracing along the A590 in a north-easterly direction, finishing just short of Levens Bridge.
All proceeds from this charity event will be donated to World Bicycle Relief as part of the Big Give Christmas Challenge, the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign.
WBR are hoping to raise vital funds for a project ‘Mobilised Communities’ - a programme that addresses the systemic challenges of distance and rural transportation.
Despite temperatures reaching 40 degrees Celsius at the start, and still around the high 30 degrees as the last rider rolled away at 7.45pm, many riders were still able to set personal bests around the popular South Lakeland course.
