Tom Rigby (Croston Velo) and Christina Wiejak (Saint Piran) battled a tough course and windy conditions to take victories in the Barrow Central Wheelers 21.

Rigby, aged 33, also won the Circuit of Coniston last month and clinched his second win of the season in convincing style with his time of 48 minutes two minutes quicker than his closest rival.

The coastal L212 course saw riders start and finish near Ulverston before heading out and back on the A5087 to Barrow-in-Furness including the climb up through Baycliff.

Testing conditions greeted the 32 riders on the Furness Peninsula with gusting North Easterly winds adding to the usually tricky L212 course.

An advantageous tailwind outbound meant a difficult return leg as riders were forced to measure their efforts.

Rigby was without a win since 2018 coming into the season but has now taken two victories in as many months.

Host club rider and quickest veteran Richard Helm led the battle behind finishing second to Rigby in 50-00.

Completing the podium positions was fellow veteran Andrew Whiteside (Springfield Financial Racing Team) whose time of 50-59 was just 16 seconds faster than Jonny Hill (Barrow Central Wheelers).

Despite the tough conditions Wiejak had the women’s course record in her sights with her winning time of 54-35 just 35 seconds short of the mark.

Wiejak secured her second victory in as many weeks after also winning the second round of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series last weekend.

Tamsin  Vicary (Barrow Central Wheelers) led the battle behind finishing second in 1-00-46 while quickest veteran Carol Westmorland (Border City Whs CC) finished third (1-02-28).

Second veteran Jan Scotchford (North Lancashire Road Club) who completed the course in 1-03-29.
