Veteran rider Richard Bideau (Pendle Forest CC) recorded a weekend double of hilly victories by winning the North Lancs RC hilly 30, while Sammie Stuart (Team Brother UK) won the women’s event.

Bideau, aged 51, also won the West Pennine RC hill the previous day and was once again triumphant clocking a winning time of one hour, eight minutes and 38 seconds.

The L309 saw riders start outside Clitheroe before travelling out and back along the lumpy A59 through the Forest of Bowland past Gisburn, Gutteridge and East Marton and then making the return journey.

Conditions were dry but competitors faced a gusty crosswind and despite being cold the weather was better than forecasted.

Bideau finished second in the same event in 2020 but went over a minute quicker and one place better on this occasion for his third win of the season.

David Ashton (Army Cycling) led the charge behind finishing second in 1-09-12 while Brian Fogarty (Fogarty’s Insurance Tri Team) finished third a further 42 seconds back in (1-09-54).

Bideau also led Pendle Forest CC to the team victory alongside Darren Harvey (1-17-55) and Matthew Kayley (1-20-58).

Andrew Whiteside (Springfield Financial Racing Team) was quickest veteran 40+ in 1-13-16; Paul David Fleming (Preston Whs) veteran 50+ in 1-16-45; Neil Higgins (Team ASL-Bolton) veteran 60+ 1-20-55; Peter Greenwood (Clayton Velo) veteran 70+ (1-22-33).

In the women’s event Stuart was a clear winner by almost three minutes for her second open time trial win of the season.

Stuart also won the Rossendale RC hilly last month and was again victorious in Lancashire.

Anna Weaver (Team Kirkley Cycles) was second in 1-23-29 while veteran Jan Scotchford (North Lancashire Road Club) finished third (1-29-30).
